Get to know the owner.

I was able to asked some questions to Maam Cecil Liao, the owner of Coldlayers Cafe.

1. How did you started? How and why did you decide to open cold layers?

Whenever my sister and i go to Taiwan and Hongkong we always go to the small snowice dessert shops on the streets. we just love how fresh and natural all the ingredients are. you can see that its all freshly made and even though its just small shop across the street the quality is very good. since we are a very big fan we decided to open here in the Philippines to introduce healthier version of dessert since we love desserts. at first we are seeking to franchise but since mostly are just home based we just searched for a machine supplier and met someone who teached us the process.

2. Why is it called cold layers?

Cold layers because our snowice when shaved is like ribbons of ice, layers of pure natural flavors

3. What are some of the challenges of being a cafe/restaurant owner?

The most challenging part and most crucial part for me is quality control. Next is how to always keep good service and motivating employees.

4. What tips can you give to help those who aspire to enter and succeed in this kind of business?

For me, number 1 is always keep the passion alive and never stop innovating. always keep up with the trend and knowing what people want and at the same time love what you do. because passion really affects the outcome of the product.

5. What are your future plans for cold layers cafe?

Our 5 year plan is of course to expand and open more branches and to educate people more with our snowice. because since Bingsu is now a trend, people mistake our snowice with Bingsu which is very different.

Our Experience

We visited Coldlayers Cafe in Evia Lifestyle Center Alabang, since we’re coming from Tagaytay. We opted to visit on a weekday to avoid the crowd.

We ordered, Pork chop Casserole, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Cheezy Meat Lasagna, Potato Wedges, Strawberry Yakult Tea, Classic Milk Tea and Horlicks Milk Tea with Salted Cream Cheese.

Pork Chop Casserole

life with zg

An oven baked mozzarella rice with tomato cream sauce topped with juicy pan-grilled pork chop.

Verdict:

I love the fusion of this dish, it’s cheesy with a sour and sweet taste. No wonder why it’s one of the best seller. It’s something new to try for your taste buds.

Price: 320 pesos.

Chicken Cordon Bleu

life with zg

It is another all time favorite. Herbed crusted chicken breast, stuffed with cheese and ham.

Verdict:

I love how cheesy it is and best paired with the garlic rice. Zoe loved the chicken too! Perfeany time of the day when you crave for some chicken cordon bleu.

Zoe loves how cheesy it is and ate almost half of the plate! She loves food and can eat anything as long as she likes it.

Price: 266 pesos

Potato Wedges

life with zg

It’s their signature deep-fried potato wedges with their own cheese dip.

Verdict:

Oh, this is a hit for us. Please don’t dine without ordering this one! We just don’t like the cheese dip, it’s so runny and doesn’t taste like cheese that much. But still our favorite even without the dip.

Price: 160 pesos

Milk Tea

life with zg

Strawberry Yakult Tea

life with zg

Zoe ordered this one because of it has 4 of her favorites in one. Strawberry, Yakult, nata de coco and popping boba! This drink is so refreshing and it’s not too sweet. Zoe loves the popping boba and she’s so happy that this drink has it because not all milk tea place offers this sinker.

Horlicks Milk Tea with Salted Cream Cheese

I love milk tea, especially with salted cream cheese. And as a breastfeeding mom, I’m so happy they have Horlicks. It’s a malt that’s great for breastfeeding moms. I didn’t know that it has no sinkers so to enjoy this drink more I suggest making an add-on.

Classic Milk Tea

My brother ordered this one because he’s not a fan of milk tea. But she loved it. It’s not too sweet and perfect to pair with Koori Chicken Chops.

Good news for everyone, they have a promo! You can now get the chicken chops and classic milk tea for only 185 pesos! So go to the nearest Coldlayers Cafe near you!

Sweet Surrender Snowice

life with zg

It is the “horlicks” snowice with horlicks powder, drizzled with chocolate syrup and fresh tapioca on the side.

Oh this is my favorite! It’s like a milk tea and ice cream in one. The snow ice melts in your mouth. It’s so creamy yet not that sweet. I love it’s texture and true enough it’s sweet slices of life. Way different from bingsu! So I suggest to try them out!

Price: 210 pesos.
